The amazingness that is Apple Cider Vinegar

Taken from: http://www.putihome.org/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=34683

So far I have used it to:

1. Wash my hair…lets just say it works better than Baking Soda! It is the conditioner in the mix

2. Make my tummy more alkaline…though I can only drink half a cap-full in the morning with very cold water. Can't say whether it is helping or more…but I am starting to enjoy drinking it!

3. Clean the toilet and shower walls

4. De-flea the cats…not sure how well it worked since Andrea and Carrie bought anti-flea shampoo the same day

5. Remove a tick from Shingo's back…again, not sure of the success because they became impatient and pulled it out…leaving the head in by accident!

6. Reduce the size of the pores on my face…i think it has helped!

7. Awkward, but it has worked wonders to reduce my thrush…stings a bit though. Initially it was enough just to wash my hair with it, but now I gently apply it to my lower region

8. A late addition…it helps with pet constipation! Gave a teaspoon fill to Mika in a plate of milk. I didn't know if it made any different, but a while later Andrea (her own) suggested that was the reason for her more friendly behavior…and no longer cringing every time you touch her!

Getting rid of shampoo and conditioner

March '15

Well, it has been a long journey and I am only 2 months in. Conclusions so far:

Baking soda is the devil!

Carrie, Andrea, Scott and I agree it isn't working. I have tried different brands and varying quantities. It also doesn't help swimming in the sea every day

So now I am on to just using apple cider vinegar

Deodorant…who needs it…i like my natural smell :-)

Feb 2015

After Scott arrived in Korea for the first time he announced he had stopped using deodorant. I laughed and said it was a strange idea since he has a lot more body hair than most asians and hence would smell…he never did

Only in 2014 after hearing Carrie and Andrea had stopped using deodorant in Malaysia did I actually think…hey, I could also go off of it! Hibo pointed out studies have shown Aluminium in the deodorant has been linked to breast cancer…I investigated and there is no conclusive evidence.

Either way, it is an unnecessary expense and another thing the world has convinced us we need to use until we die.

Lets just say I have a very forgiving husband…

I have smelt and it is about a month in…Carrie told me a week ago I should be using some crystal in-between product as a lay over, but I couldn't be bothered (the security of already being married and not having anyone to impress in Malaysia)…but I think it is worth keeping at it…

An update…2 months in and I think I am smelling less, but still a bit there (especially at Scott's farewells when I had to hug all the teachers)…but think it is starting to take effect!

Solar all the way

Feb '15

The biggest thing I struggled with with solar is specs…what will give you enough power. I still don't know but I can tell you what I have

I have a 7 Watt panel
and leaving it in the sun from around 9am to 6pm
charges my 13 000 mAh power bank
half way
…which means I can charge 2 cellphones off of it to full charge at night

The first time of using the power bank I charge it all the way using a wall plug
off of this I could charge
2 cellphones
and about ½ way on my iPad

I definitely recommend you get a power bank and a USB extension cable!
iPhones and iPads have a minimum charge that they need before they will start charging…connecting them directly to the panel means that when a cloud comes over and then moves on, your iPhone might not start charging again. Also, if the sun isn't strong it won't charge. Where as I have found the power bank will charge regardless.

This is all very untechnical though so maybe the small charge is doing more harm than good? Let me know if so!

In terms of water features:

I have a 7 Volt/140 mA/1.2 Watt panel (11 x 11 cm) connected to a 6 Volt, 120 mA pump, and maybe I get about a 10 to 15 cm high fountain coming off of that. It is sensitive to the sun and angle though so they hight will increase or decrease accordingly. If the sun is limited it will just spirt on and off!
